Arthur Hayes Says Ethereum Could Hit $5,000 as Robinhood Chain Fuels Institutional Adoption
Arthur Hayes predicts Ethereum could reach $5,000 over the next year, driven by institutional adoption and the launch of the Robinhood Chain, an Ethereum Layer 2 network supporting tokenized assets.

Arthur Hayes forecasts that the price of Ethereum will climb to roughly $5,000 over the next year, pointing to Robinhood’s adoption of ETH as a potential blueprint for other financial institutions. Sharing this outlook at EastPoint: Seoul 2026 on Sept. 28, Hayes explained that Robinhood’s integration of Ethereum technology is forging a fresh narrative for the cryptocurrency.
The Maelstrom chief investment officer noted that major financial enterprises looking to adopt blockchain technology now have Robinhood as a practical template, and he anticipates that other companies will mimic this model. At the time of his remarks, ETH traded at approximately $2,650, meaning a surge to $5,000 would represent an increase of about 89%.
The Robinhood Chain serves as a prime example of this trend. Its mainnet officially launched on July 1 as an Ethereum Layer 2 network built on Arbitrum technology, designed to handle financial and other tokenized assets. According to Robinhood, the network is both permissionless and fully compatible with the Ethereum network, with ETH serving as the native gas token.
The network utilizes Ethereum blobs for data availability and connects back to Ethereum via the canonical Arbitrum bridge. The mainnet rollout was backed by partners such as Alchemy, BitGo, and Chainlink, alongside Uniswap, which developed specialized liquidity infrastructure for the chain. These collaborations secure technical bridges between the Layer 2 network and Ethereum.

Robinhood has indicated the network will support native cryptocurrency applications as well as tokenized securities, including stocks and ETFs. The company reported surpassing 1 million funded international customers during the second quarter of 2026 and rolled out Stock Tokens to eligible users across more than 120 countries via the Robinhood Wallet.
While Hayes’ forecast is an ambitious target rather than a guaranteed outcome, recent dips leaving Ethereum below $2,800 make the $5,000 milestone appear even more distant. Reaching this goal would require a substantial rebound and significant price growth from current levels.
Meanwhile, Ethereum staking queue metrics highlight sustained demand for network staking. In late September, more than 1.6 million ETH were staked in the queue awaiting transaction validation, compared to roughly 161,000 ETH slated for exit from the network.
This sizeable entry backlog restricts the supply immediately accessible to incoming validators, though staking activity does not directly influence current or future ETH price action.

The core driver of Hayes’ price projection is industry replication: Should Robinhood’s Ethereum-inspired products and services inspire competitors to launch similar offerings, Hayes believes the resulting narrative and user demand for ETH will support a higher valuation. Ultimately, widespread adoption across the financial sector remains the pivotal component of Hayes’ 12-month $5,000 ETH forecast.
