JPMorgan Plans JPM Coin Expansion to Ethereum for Institutions

JPMorgan is expanding its dollar-deposit token, JPM Coin, to the Ethereum blockchain for vetted institutional clients, offering a public settlement rail for corporate payments and bypassing traditional banking hours.

JPMorgan Plans JPM Coin Expansion to Ethereum for Institutions

JPMorgan is expanding JPM Coin to the Ethereum blockchain, making its dollar-deposit token accessible to vetted institutional clients and moving the offering beyond Base. Word of JPM Coin’s upcoming Ethereum integration emerged on October 19, though a specific launch date has not yet been announced.

This move gives JPMorgan a public settlement rail for corporate payments, though access remains strictly controlled by the bank. Because JPM Coin represents a claim on fiat dollars held within JPMorgan, it functions as a deposit token rather than a retail stablecoin, meaning standard Ethereum users will not be able to trade or hold it.

$7 Billion a Day: The Existing Business Behind JPMorgan’s JPM Coin Ethereum Move

According to CoinDesk, JPMorgan’s private Kinexys network currently handles more than $7 billion in daily volume. This figure reflects Kinexys activity and does not account for JPM Coin usage on Ethereum, which has not yet launched.

24-Hour Transfers, but Only for Approved Institutions

As Cointelegraph points out, qualified clients will be able to transfer JPM Coin instantly, 24 hours a day. Emma Landriault, the global head of Kinexys Labs, noted that digital asset firms can leverage the token for blockchain transactions, while traditional financial institutions can use it to post collateral and settle trades.

For trading desks, this means dollar values can now transfer simultaneously with tokenized assets, completely bypassing traditional banking hours.

November 2025: Base Came Before the Ethereum Expansion

JPMorgan initially launched JPM Coin on Base in November 2025. At that time, the bank indicated that further public blockchain integrations were in the works, positioning the Ethereum expansion as the next phase of a previously outlined roadmap.

A subsequent announcement followed in January, when JPMorgan revealed plans to integrate JPM Coin with the Canton Network. However, neither Cointelegraph nor CoinDesk has reported that the Canton deployment is complete, keeping it in the planning stage.

Why JPMorgan Picked Ethereum

Landriault explained to Bloomberg that deep liquidity and the existing presence of institutional clients on the network were the primary reasons for choosing Ethereum. She did not provide a definitive timeline for when the token will go live on the network.
