DTCC Launches Tokenization for 34 Securities Worth $30 Trillion

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation has launched its tokenization service, bringing 34 securities worth $30 trillion and 20 firms onto blockchain infrastructure with 24/7 wallet transfers.

DTCC Launches Tokenization for 34 Securities Worth $30 Trillion

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation officially rolled out its DTCC Tokenization Service on October 28, 2026. A DTCC spokesperson shared with CoinDesk that 34 securities were eligible at the debut, alongside 20 firms that secured access agreements. Together, these assets account for roughly $30 trillion in market capitalization.

While participating financial institutions can transfer these tokenized assets between approved wallets 24/7, the actual conversion process from traditional holdings into tokens remains restricted to standard business hours.

DTCC Opens Access to 34 Securities and 20 Firms

Operating through the Depository Trust Company (DTC)—a subsidiary of DTCC—the service initially supports select large-cap Russell 1000 equities, exchange-traded funds, and United States Treasury instruments.

Twenty participants from the DTC ecosystem have executed access agreements, featuring major names such as JPMorgan, Citi, Fidelity Investments, and Citadel Securities. The organization anticipates welcoming additional participants over time.

These eligible instruments possess a cumulative market value estimated at $30 trillion, allowing registered institutions to seamlessly transition their current holdings between physical and tokenized states.

DTCC Tokenization Service Wallet Transfers Run Around the Clock

Functioning on both the Canton Network and a private Besu blockchain managed by DTCC, the platform accepts conversion submissions during regular business hours. The organization aims for a turnaround time of 15 minutes or less.

Once transformation is complete, the resulting tokens may travel between approved blockchain wallets at any hour, provided they adhere to compliance parameters. However, this extended transfer window does not lengthen standard exchange trading hours.

DTC Keeps Custody Backing and Ownership Records

For every token minted, the DTC maintains a one-for-one backing by holding the corresponding security in custody. As tokens change hands across verified wallets, the depository retains official ownership logs, ensuring that foundational investor protections and rights remain intact.

With more than $114 trillion in securities under its care, DTC’s custodial framework distinguishes these authorized tokens from synthetic alternatives that merely shadow share prices without conferring direct ownership of the underlying equity.

Frank La Salla, president and CEO of DTCC, noted that the release successfully concludes extensive efforts to integrate tokenized assets into a “regulated framework supported by trusted market infrastructure.”

DTCC Rollout Follows December 2025 SEC Letter

Regulatory groundwork was laid in December 2025, when the Securities and Exchange Commission issued a no-action letter indicating it would not recommend enforcement against the DTC concerning its planned tokenization initiative for a specified group of assets.

Following a scheduled July pilot, DTCC announced in May 2026 that an October debut was in the works, culminating in Wednesday’s launch right on schedule.

DTCC Plans Stellar and Arc Support in 2027

Looking ahead, DTCC intends to integrate Stellar and Circle Internet’s Arc blockchain into its infrastructure by 2027. The roadmap also highlights wider corporate-action capabilities, mechanisms for settling transactions using digital currency, and methods to leverage tokenized securities as collateral.

These upcoming upgrades will push the system past its initial capabilities, uniting token movements more closely with cash settlement workflows and collateral management systems across a broader array of networks.
